Medical Definition of SCIATIC FORAMEN
: either of two foramina on each side of the pelvis that are formed by the hip bone, the sacrospinous ligament, and the sacrotuberous ligament and that form a passage from the pelvis to the gluteal and peroneal regions: a : one giving passage to the piriformis muscle and to the sciatic, superior and inferior gluteal, and pudendal nerves together with their associated arteries and veins—called also greater sciatic foramen b : one giving passage to the tendon of the obturator internus muscle and its nerve, to the internal pudendal artery and veins, and to the pudendal nerve—called also lesser sciatic foramen
